Aug 4, 2017MotoGP: Aero Body Fairings Come Out In Force At Brno
Jorge Lorenzo (99) used a radical new Aero Body fairing during FP2 today at Brno. New technical rules for 2017 outlawed the aerodynamic winglets that became so prominent on bodywork during the 2016 MotoGP World Championship. The new rules state that any aerodynamic devices must be integrated within the bodywork and that new "Aero Body" fairings must be homologated and approved by Technical Control and that the "Aero Body" fairing components can only be updated once during the season. This last regulation combined with the fact that the new Aero Body fairings have as many drawbacks as advantages at some tracks have led to only a few teams experimenting with Aero Body fairings during race weekends so far in 2017. Today, however, most of the factory teams used Aero Body fairings during practices at Brno. The most radical was the Aero Body used by Ducati's Jorge Lorenzo in Free Practice Two, while Honda's Aero Body fairing was much more subtle.
